OUR STORY

Pilates Pavilion is the result of years of searching for a place that felt like home…

My love for Pilates has spanned over 13 years. It has been my therapy, my peace, and my constant. But despite my deep devotion, I struggled to find a studio that truly resonated with me. Living in Sydney and Melbourne, I was always searching for a place that felt like more than just a workout. I craved community, connection, growth, and support. I wanted to step into a space that was both beautiful and welcoming; without the pretentious, cliquey energy that often came with it.

When I moved to Wollongong, having just closed my business in Melbourne, I was newly pregnant with my second child and at a crossroads. I didn’t know what my next step would be, but I knew one thing for certain: whatever I chose had to bring me joy. I wanted to wake up each morning excited for the day ahead, not dreading it.

It didn’t take long to realise that the answer had been with me all along. Pilates! But I didn’t just want to open a studio. I wanted to create the space I had been searching for all these years: a true community. A place of belonging.

Through both losing and finding myself in motherhood, I knew this space had to accommodate other struggling mums. As a mum of two little ones, I found that keeping up with my Pilates practice had become impossible. The lack of support, the demands of being the default parent, and the absence of childcare options meant that me-time always came last. I searched high and low for a Pilates studio that truly supported mums; with proper child-minding facilities, not just a ‘mums and bubs’ class. But I found nothing. And honestly? The idea of jumping on a Reformer with my baby next to me, or on me, made my skin crawl. I didn’t want to be doing Pilates with a bub! I just wanted 50 minutes of uninterrupted time to focus on myself. I deserved that.

So, I created the space I needed… For myself and for others who shared the same longing. I know there are many of us out there…

… But it isn’t just for mums. I had felt this way long before motherhood. Becoming a mother only added more layers to the challenge of finding a Pilates studio that truly felt like home.

And that’s how Pilates Pavilion was born.

I chose to use the word Pavilion in our name, because this is more than just a Pilates studio. I have grand dreams for what Pilates Pavilion will become, and in time, those will unfold. But for now, I want you to know that this space is yours!

We have an open-door policy. This is why I designed a beautiful studio with casual seating areas. A tea lounge with a selection of complimentary organic teas, and even a ‘dining’ space where you can sit, enjoy your own cold foods and drinks, and connect; whether that’s catching up with friends or making new ones. I never want you to feel rushed out the door. I want you to feel welcome, always.

And while you take this time for yourself, your children will be cared for in a beautiful Montessori-inspired, screen-free crèche, by our wonderful educators who understand just how much this time means to you. Best of all, this service is free of charge! (For our child-free members, rest assured, children will not be in the studio. The crèche has its own separate entrance and exit!)

Pilates Pavilion is a place for you to belong, to reconnect, and to truly prioritise yourself, guilt-free.

With Love,

Berra
